Attacks kill 5 in northwest Pakistan
Islamabad, Pakistan - Attacks on police forces in the north-western Pakistan on Monday killed at least five people Monday, including four police officers, authorities said.

Four people were killed in a suicide bombing in Peshawar, when the bomber walked in front of the marked police van and blew himself up near the Pakistani government official Muhammad Siraj. One of them was a police chief and three policemen.

Sixteen people were injured in the attack, Siraj said. Accidents involving police and civilians.

A fourth policemen were killed hours later when a bomb struck a second police car on patrol in Peshawar, according to Shafi Ullah Khan, a Pakistani police official.

The second attack wounded three other officers.

Peshawar is the capital of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has been plagued by militant activity and sectarian violence that has spilled into the tribal region of Pakistan.
