State panel- Arkansas birds died of blunt force trauma
Mass deaths of thousands of black birds in Arkansas was caused by "blunt force", according to a new report from the Arkansas game and Fish Commission.

Laboratory experiments were performed on 13 of the red-winged blackbirds, which was part of the group who flew into buildings and killed in a district in Beebe, Arkansas, 40 miles north of Little Rock.

"Tests ruled out bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, pesticides and Avicides (chemicals used to kill birds) as the cause of death," the Commission said in a statement.

These results confirmed preliminary tests were conducted after the incident.

The tests revealed bleeding "in accordance with blunt trauma," according to the report released Wednesday. "In most cases, these lesions in wild birds, due to the theft of fixed objects such as trees, houses, windows, power lines, towers, etc."
