Eucalyptus Systems Gains Momentum with Customers and Partners in 2010

Eucalyptus Systems, Inc., creators of the leading independent private cloud platform, today announced that in 2010 adoption of the Eucalyptus software continued to gain momentum with users, customers and partners worldwide. In the past year, one in five Fortune 100 companies started up a Eucalyptus cloud deployment, as part of the more than more than 25,000 Eucalyptus deployments across government organizations, academic institutions and private enterprises worldwide. The past year was also marked by rapid expansion of the Eucalyptus partner ecosystem, with leading global companies including Dell, HP, Intel, and Red Hat collaborating with Eucalyptus for private cloud computing solutions.

"The benefits of private compute clouds became better understood in 2010 -- we saw a remarkable increase in Eucalyptus downloads, test installations and deployments among Web companies and enterprises with massive compute needs," said Marten Mickos, Eucalyptus CEO. "We expect the market to continue to heat up in 2011. Goldman Sachs has found that 2011 will be a year of major investment in private cloud technologies, and overall, cloud computing is one of six themes that will shape the software industry this year.

"The Eucalyptus platform has been in production and meeting the needs of users and customers for over two years. Together with our partners and the community, we continue on a fast pace of innovation, addressing the requirements of advanced customers with growing compute needs or a desire to consolidate existing data center resources," continued Mickos.

Eucalyptus Systems launched a formal partner program in 2010 to address demand from product and services companies, as well as systems integrators and resellers, to support Eucalyptus. Its partner ecosystem has quickly grown to represent nearly 100 companies, including many of the world's leading technology vendors. Last year companies including Red Hat, HP, Intel, and Dell joined existing Eucalyptus partners Canonical, Novell, VMware, RightScale, and many others.

A key partner initiative for Eucalyptus in 2010 was the creation of The NRE Alliance, a coalition of Eucalyptus, newScale and rPath, focused on bringing self-service private and hybrid clouds to the enterprise. The NRE Alliance offers the foundation for a complete enterprise cloud solution, including a self-service IT storefront with on-demand provisioning from newScale, rPath's centralized software distribution hub for managing IT system construction and change, and the Eucalyptus private cloud infrastructure for elastic scaling of workloads based on dynamic demand. MomentumSI, the NRE Alliance preferred delivery partner, will bring enterprise IT organizations self-service private and hybrid clouds built on top of the three vendors' technologies.
