Unclaimed Bonds- Church Received Hefty Sum from Bonds

Unclaimed bonds were responsible for a check being sent to a church in Charlestown West Virgina earlier this week. The United Methodist Church was presented with the check just shy of of $10,500 by State Treasurer John Perdue earlier this week. The funds were discovered by the Purdue's office field officer Roger Huges.

The retrieved funds will be allocated to the church's seminary education fund to offset the costs of students studying to become a ministers.

Surprisingly this is not the church's first gain from unclaimed bonds. In 2009, it was also discovered by the Purdue's office that the church had an unclaimed asset of $52,000.

The funds are being recovered in a targeted effort of the State Treasury office to distribute funds to their rightful owners. Their efforts have led to a find of over $100 million in unlaimed monies, all of which has been returned to their intended recipients. The Senator does extensive research to find the bonds and their recipients. According to Hughes there are over 800,000 accounts in West Virgina that are still unclaimed.
